This made-to-order heat-treated glass is stronger than annealed glass of comparable thickness and is designed to break into relatively small pieces rather than large sharp shards. Tempered glass is often selected for added strength and safety glazing. It is not automatically suitable for every door, shower, guard, railing, storefront, fire-rated, wind-load, or structural application. The buyer, designer, contractor, or installer must verify thickness, support, edge clearance, hardware compatibility, and applicable code.

Choose the appropriate thickness

• 1/8 in (about 3 mm): lightweight inserts and smaller supported applications where this thickness is approved.
• 3/16 in (about 5 mm): additional rigidity for medium panes, furniture, cabinet, and selected window applications.
• 1/4 in (about 6 mm): heavier panels and applications requiring greater rigidity, subject to engineering and hardware review.

Edge, corner, hole, and shape options

• Edges: standard seamed, flat polished, pencil polished, or beveled where feasible
• Corners: square, clipped, or radius corners

• Fabrication: notches, cutouts, approved shapes, tint, low-iron, laminated, or other specialty upgrades by quote

Provide a dimensioned drawing with the finished width and height plus every edge, radius, hole, notch, and cutout. Minimum distances between holes, edges, corners, and notches depend on thickness and fabrication limits. We confirm feasibility and price before production.

Important: all fabrication happens before tempering

Tempered glass cannot be cut, drilled, ground, notched, or resized after heat treatment. Every dimension and fabrication feature must be finalized first. Attempting to modify finished tempered glass can cause complete breakage. A changed measurement requires a newly fabricated pane.

How to measure and order

1. Determine the exact finished glass dimensions required by the frame, hardware, stops, gaskets, setting blocks, and installation method.
2. Measure width and height in multiple locations and verify that the opening is square.
3. Select thickness and edge finish, then provide a drawing for holes, notches, cutouts, or radius corners.
4. Confirm stamp location if its visibility matters to the finished project.
5. Request professional field measurement when replacing existing glass or when clearances are uncertain.

A request for “48 × 60” must mean the required finished glass size—not the rough opening or frame exterior. Do not copy an old pane measurement if the frame condition, stops, gaskets, or installation system have changed.

Large-panel review

Support, handling, edgework, intended use, and fulfillment must be confirmed before production. Pickup, local delivery, or shipping eligibility depends on the finished size and destination.

Safety, breakage, and code notice

Tempered glass is safety glazing, but it is not unbreakable and is not automatically structural, security, fire-rated, hurricane-rated, bullet-resistant, or suitable for guards and railings. Surface damage, edge damage, improper support, hardware pressure, inclusion-related spontaneous breakage, impact, or thermal stress can cause failure. Use a qualified glazing professional to select, handle, and install the product.
